Ben Rector's "Hide Away"

"Hide Away"

I gotta mind full of questions and they just won't let me be
I am weary from the restless heart inside of me
I never care about believing till I see I lost my way
And then my troubles all around me and all that I can say,
See me through another day cause the devils calling
I need a place to hide away, from the storm
When the waters rising, when the sun don't shine
I need a place to hide away and some peace tonight
Found out life was complicated, more grey and black and white
Sometimes I wanna follow Jesus but sometimes he's hard to find
I never care about believing till I see I lost my way
And then my troubles all around me and all that I can say is,
See me through another day cause the devils calling
I need a place to hide away from the storm
When the waters rising, when the sun don't shine
I need a place to hide away and some peace tonight
When the waters rise around me, when my worry's all I see
I called your name and you came and found me
Through the darkness I can see, Oh I can see oh
Will you lead me through another day cause the devils calling
I need a place to hide away from the storm
When the waters rising when the sun don't shine
I need a place to hide away and some peace tonight
I need a place to hide away, Could you bring me some peace tonight

The Shins' "Those to Come"

"Those To Come"

Eyeless in the morning sun you were
Pale and mild, a modern girl
Taken with thought, still prone to care
Makin tea in your underwear
You went out in the yard to find

Something to eat and clear your mind
Something bad inside me went away

Quaking leaves and broken light
Shifting skin the coming night
The bearers of all good things arrive
Climb inside us, twist and cry
A kiss on your molten eyes

Myriad lives like blades of grass
Yet to be realized, bow as they pass

They are cold,
Still,
Waiting in the ether,
To form,
Feel,
Kill,
Propagate,
Only to die
[x2]

Dissolve
Magically,
Absurdly,
They'll end,
Leave,
Dissipate,
Coldly
And strangely
Return

Thanks, Archana

My Indian friend Archana was nice enough to let me try one of her beautiful saris.

Photobucket

Archana also showed me the latest smash hit song in India. It keeps getting stuck in my head and I keep it open in a tab so I can see the awesome dancing. See for yourself:

(FYI, "chammak challo" means "hip shaker.")

Thurl Bailey's A Song for You

Have you heard anything by Thurl Bailey? Wowee, his voice is wonderful. I was so glad to be able to be introduced to his music on the way to the temple. This CD is definitely on my wish list now.

Thurl Bailey's A Song for You

And he even sings one of my favorite sacred songs: "Holy, Holy, Holy."

Juli's November

Frag' nicht nach morgen,
denn er bleibt dir verborgen.
Frag' nicht was gestern war...
Wir zieh'n unsre Kreise
auf unserer Reise.
Wo eben noch Sonne war...
Wir ertrinken zu zweit
in unseren Worten.
Wir ertrinken zu zweit
in Einsamkeit.
Irgendwann im November...
Irgendwann im November...
Zu lang, zu weit, zu viel passiert...
Irgendwann im November...
Wir verlier'n uns im Regen
auf endlosen Wegen.
Warum laesst du mich im Stich?
Wir zieh'n immer weiter,
denn wir sind Schattenreiter
auf unserem Weg ins Licht.
Wir ertrinken zu zweit
in unseren Worten.
Wir ertrinken zu zweit
in Einsamkeit.
Irgendwann im November...
Irgendwann im November...
Zu lang, zu weit, zu viel passiert...
Egal was noch kommt,
egal was du sagst.
Auch wenn du jetzt schweigst,
ich habe versagt.
Egal was noch kommt,
egal was du sagst.
Auch wenn du jetzt schweigst,
ich habe versagt.
Ich habe versagt.
Ich wei, ich habe versagt.
Denn es ist Juli...
Denn es ist Juli...
Denn es ist Juli...
Irgendwann im November...
Irgendwann im November...
Irgendwann im November...
Irgendwann im November...
werd' ich geh'n.
Irgendwann im November...
ob du's willst oder nicht.
Irgendwann im November...
ob du's willst oder nicht.
Irgendwann im November...
ob du's willst oder nicht.
Irgendwann im November...
werden wir uns nicht mehr seh'n.

Another sound I'm loving (just don't look at her teeth):

Passing Down the Nostalgic

I totally understand now how people can want some of their childhood for their children and how they can want to disregard all budgetary limits. After converting my nephew and niece to Melanie Hoffman ("Oh Boy, I've Got Joy") and laughing about Mary Miché's Earthy Tunes and Nature Nuts, I want to get these for them, cheesy 80s music and all:

Safety Kids Set:

Safety Kids Digital Set

Sometimes you've just gotta yell and scream! Even if it costs $29.95!

Wendy Murdock Shurtliff's "I've Got Joy" ($8.99):

"Angels"

I can't describe the relief I felt that I had said no to singing when I heard that this was the song to be sung (and the joy I feel at making fun of it):

Blech. Blech. Blech! If I had said yes, I would have vetoed it without a second thought. Blech.

Keane's "Hamburg Song"

I don't wanna be adored
Don't wanna be first in line
Or make myself heard
I'd like to bring a little light
To shine a light on your life
To make you feel loved

No, don't wanna be the only one you know
I wanna be the place you call home

I lay myself down
To make it so, but you don't want to know
I give much more
Than I'd ever ask for

Will you see me in the end
Or is it just a waste of time
Trying to be your friend
To shine, shine, shine
Shine a little light
Shine a light on my life
And warm me up again

Fool, I wonder if you know yourself at all
You know that it could be so simple

I lay myself down
To make it so, but you don't want to know
You take much more
Than I'd ever ask for

Say a word or two to brighten my day
Do you think that you could see your way

To lay yourself down
And make it so, but you don't want to know
You take much more
Than I'd ever ask for

Jon Foreman's Cure for the Pain

Good for the soul.

I'm not sure why it always goes downhill
Why broken cisterns never could stay filled
I've spent ten years singing gravity away
But the water keeps on falling from the sky

And here tonight while the stars are blacking out
With every hope and dream I've ever had in doubt
I've spent ten years trying to sing these doubts away
But the water keeps on falling from my eyes

And heaven knows, heaven knows
I tried to find a cure for the pain
Oh my Lord, to suffer like You do
It would be a lie to run away

So blood is fire pulsing through our veins
We're either riders or fools behind the reigns
I've spent ten years trying to sing it all away
But the water keeps on falling from my tries

And heaven knows, heaven knows
I tried to find a cure for the pain
Oh my Lord, to suffer like You do
It would be a lie to run away
A lie to run, it would be a lie
It would be a lie to run away

It keeps on falling (x4)
Water keeps on falling from my eyes

And heaven knows, heaven knows
I tried to find a cure for the pain
Oh my Lord, to suffer like You do
It would be a lie to run away
It would be a lie to run away
It would be a lie to run away

Kein Zurück

Es geht kein Weg zurück.

Wolfsheim's "Kein Zurück"

Weißt du noch, wie's war?
Kinderzeit - wunderbar:

Was auch immer jetzt getan,

Was ich heute weiß,
Hätte ich lieber nie gesehen.

Es geht kein Weg zurück.
Es geht kein Weg zurück.
Es geht kein Weg zurück.

Dein Leben dreht sich nur im Kreis.
So voll von weggeworfener Zeit.
Deine Träume schiebst du endlos vor dir her.

Was ich heute weiß,

Azure Ray's "November"

Beautiful. Thanks, Hannah:

So I'm waiting for this test to end
So these lighter days can soon begin
I'll be alone but maybe more carefree
Like a kite that floats so effortlessly
I was afraid to be alone
Now I'm scared that's how I'd like to be
All these faces none the same
How can there be so many personalities
So many lifeless empty hands
So many hearts in great demand
And now my sorrow seems so far away
Until I'm taken by these bolts of pain
But I turn them off and tuck them away
'til these rainy days that make them stay
And then I'll cry so hard to these sad songs
And the words still ring, once here now gone
And they echo through my head everyday
And I dont think they'll ever go away
Just like thinking of your childhood home
But we cant go back we're on our own
Oh,
But I'm about to give this one more shot
And find it in myself
I'll find it in myself
So were speeding towards that time of year
To the day that marks that you're not here
And i think I'll want to be alone
So please understand if I don't answer the phone
I'll just sit and stare at my deep blue walls
Until I can see nothing at all
Only particles some fast some slow
All my eyes can see is all I know
Oh,
But I'm about to give this one more shot
And find it in myself
I'll find it in myself
Doo doo doo(x9)

Citizen Cope's "Sideways"

"Sideways"

You know it ain't easy
For these thoughts here to leave me
There's no words to describe it
In French or in English
Well, diamonds they fade
And flowers they bloom
And I'm telling you
These feelings won't go away
They've been knockin' me sideways
They've been knockin' me out lately
Whenever you come around me
These feelings won't go away
They've been knockin' me sideways
I keep thinking in a moment that
Time will take them away
But these feelings won't go away.

Thanks, Amy.

Dan in Real Life

Have you seen Dan in Real Life? I really liked seeing Michael, from The Office, in a sweet role (though he could have talked less about himself and found out more about the girl).

And now I've got a new classic line: "You're a MURDERER of LOVE!!!" Man, that girl was good. Watch this:

Plus, I fell in love with Norwegian Sondre Lerche's music. Check out the soundtrack. Here's one song:

Request

If anyone can find me the sheet music to Victor Borge and Leonid Hambro's duet to Chopin's Minute Waltz for me (which I've posted before, but which I'll post again for your motivation), I will be very, very grateful.

I called the music store and I have done many, many Google searches, without avail. Good luck to you.

"Pearls Before Breakfast"

The fabulous idea to place a world-known violinist in a Metro station and see what happened combined with a wonderful writer captured me in this article 2007 Washington Post article, "Pearls Before Breakfast." I don't claim to be very knowledgeable about music, but being kind of in the dark about who wrote it and when and what's it called doesn't seem to take away from my ability to enjoy a lovely classical concert. No, I wouldn't have recognized Joshua Bell This is actually the first I've ever heard of his name. But would I have noticed the violinist? I don't know. I'm glad this article points out we need to slow down and appreciate beauty a little.

Turns out there's a YouTube video to it, too:

And I had to look up the music mentioned in the article, too:

Wow.

Silbermond's "Symphonie"

Silbermond's "Symphonie"

Symphonie

Symphonie
Und jetzt wird es still um uns
Denn wir stehen hier im Regen
Haben uns nichts mehr zu geben
Und es ist besser wenn du gehst

Symphonie
Irgendwo sind wir gescheitert
Und so wie’s ist so geht’s nich weiter
Das Ende ist schon lang geschrieben
Und das war unsere

Symphonie

(This YouTube movie is waaaaay cheesy, so just listen to the music.)

Silbermond - Symphony

Tell me what happened to us
suddenly you seem to be a complete stranger to me
why doesn’t it feel good any longer
when I’m in your arms?
doesn’t it matter anymore what happens with us?

Where are you going, I can barely see you anymore
our vanity is on the way now
didn’t we want to be daring, have we perhaps betrayed ourselves?
I used to think we could really stand anything

Symphony
and now it’s silent around us
cause we’re standing in the rain
and have nothing else to give
and it’s better if you go

Because it’s time
to admit this is not working
there’s nothing else to talk about
because it’s better to give up
when it rains

And the silence around us becomes even more dense
I don’t understand any single word coming from your mouth
did we try too hard?
why didn’t we see it coming?
it won’t be easy to recognize all that

Symphony
and now it’s silent around us
cause we’re standing in the rain
and have nothing else to give
and it’s better if you go

Symphony
We failed somewhere
and we can’t keep going the way things are
the end was written long ago
and that was our

Symphony
and now it’s silent around us
cause we’re standing in the rain
and have nothing else to give
and it’s better if you go

Because it’s time
to admit this is not working
there’s nothing else to talk about
because it’s better to give up
when it rains

Ja Deutschland!

I love the 2010 World Cup song and can't hear it enough (oh, oh, oh, oh, oh!):

Good luck to Germany against Spain tomorrow!
