Anne Bradstreet

Anne Bradstreet wrote the first volume of original verse in the American colonies! I think she is most famous for the poem written to her book, her so-called "ill-form'd offspring of [her] feeble brain."

My favorites were:

"By night when others soundly slept"

"My soul, rejoice thou in thy God"

"My thankfull heart with glorying Tongue"

Interestingly, they are all about trials succored by God.

While looking for these links, I found an interesting page of poets.org. It is called Life/Lines, and it is poetry and people's connection to the verses.
