I know EXACTLY what you mean. When I was living in Spain I ate everything in sight even when I wasn't hungry because there was this subconscious voice in my head telling me I needed to get it or else I would starve. I think it's my body's defense mechanism from being in a strange and unfamiliar place where I don't have the usual comforts and foods available to me. I don't know, brains are weird... but you hit the nail on the head.
