I just broke my fifth metatarsal while dancing... I literally 'busted a move'. Anyway, I am a full-time college student, graduating this May, work full-time, have a gorgeous puppy who I spend my weekends with on the beach and hiking. This break comes at the worst time. Anyway, I have a knee scooter, crutches (ugh, the Devil) and thinking about getting an iWalk2.0. I must graduate in May so I am putting my best foot forward (no pun intended) and focusing on my studies and getting around campus. Today is day two from the break. All of these posts and comments are life saving. This is a really good forum to go to after such a life changing event as this. Being debilitated at this age is terrifying. Thanks for all the posts and exercises!Maria Simonettihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04007270669527320493noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31849511.post-60416372556979579722019-12-28T13:01:22.387-08:002019-12-28T13:01:22.387-08:00Well, I'm reading this and also saw your video...Well, I'm reading this and also saw your video in 2019 :)
Thank you, all very good tips, hope your foot had healed 100% fine!!Nadia Thttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00539991711810904714noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31849511.post-80005074786769468312019-10-08T09:48:41.568-07:002019-10-08T09:48:41.568-07:00Michelle you are a benevolent and comical goddess ...Michelle you are a benevolent and comical goddess and I appreciate you immensely. 4 days ago I suffered a cuboid fracture, multiple other small stress fractures and tears. I am a server and a bartender and this article has been a godsend. It has been beyond frustrating. As if I'm not coordinated enough, it's absolutely obscene to watch me try to struggle with crutches. I've already fell four times, averaging once a day, since my injury. Your article has brought me a smile and some very helpful tips. Been in a foot cast for the past six weeks. No pain, just inconvenience. Use elbow crutches as found regular crutches too hard to use and kept falling over! My main problem is what to do now: one doctor said remove the cast at 6 weeks and continue with crutches, whether bones have formed a full union or not. If too long in a cast, he advised, muscles and bones will atrophy. However, a doctor friend said have an xray and if bones are still not 100% healed, keep cast on for a few more weeks, then have therapy. Am confused!! What has been the experiences of others out there?? I also live in a country where the moon boots are not readily available so for now, they are not an option...Any advice based on experience??IWinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06046072196662116726noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31849511.post-50522990200389483822019-06-09T15:26:57.429-07:002019-06-09T15:26:57.429-07:00Thankyou So much for the info your broken toes and...Thankyou So much for the info your broken toes and foot. I just wanted to say thanks for sharing this, as I am a 62 year old who never had to deal with this. You hit the nail on the head with everything (except I am in a boot, not a cast) and it makes me feel a whole lot better knowing that young people who started out physically fit and younger, have the same challenges and aches and pains that a somewhat overweight, out of shape senior has.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31849511.post-78715842763326884152019-01-28T04:14:50.163-08:002019-01-28T04:14:50.163-08:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Robert Petersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08829707399250365557noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31849511.post-10807740854651763632016-07-10T10:45:17.603-07:002016-07-10T10:45:17.603-07:00Hi!Hi!Michelle Glauserhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01646213573761736892noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31849511.post-19570231330416079332016-07-10T08:32:30.244-07:002016-07-10T08:32:30.244-07:0040 stairs is quite a barrier! You helped me laugh again. :) I have a Jones Fracture in my right foot and I've had it for 24 days. I'm in a boot with crutches and knee walker/scooter/thingy. I've only used the scooter a couple times because it hurts my knee so bad. I use the crutches a lot, but a lot of the time I'm also putting some weight on my foot. From the severe, nauseating pain in my foot, I don't think it's been able to heal at all. I'm close to 100 lbs. overweight and I already have trouble with my shoulders, hips and knees, so the crutches and scooter are just making it worse. The thing is, there are close to 40 stairs where I live right now, and no elevator or ramps. I need to move somewhere else and I also need to ask for a plaster cast and a wheelchair. ... Thank you so much for all of your thoughts, suggestions and shared experiences. Sharing is caring! :). I feel some hope now. Your original blog about your bro...Hey Michelle,
Your original blog about your broken foot was in 2012. And now it's 2016, so I don't know if you'll get this, but I wanted to try anyway. I broke my foot 24 days ago on June 15, while stepping off the bus in downtown Minneapolis. As I landed on top of my foot, I heard and felt a "Snap." I told the transit police, who happened to be behind the bus, that I wanted to continue on my way to an appointment. I "walked" about 12 feet and realized that there was No Way that I could go any further. I flagged down the cops and they called an ambulance. I have a Jones Fracture on my right foot. The ER doctor put me in a boot and gave me crutches.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06902455105226656398noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31849511.post-6436990255044166662016-07-08T01:42:47.220-07:002016-07-08T01:42:47.220-07:00Ahh just found out I had a broken leg today and sp...Ahh just found out I had a broken leg today and spent the entire day struggling especially with the showering part. I'm guessing the sore abs are because not only are you holding your one leg up while crutching around, you have more weight on that leg than you're used to. Coolers do seem more sturdy than chairs, though I'd never thought of using them for that reason—I just liked that I already had one so I didn't have to spend money on a special chair. Good luck on building up that six pack! ;)Michelle Glauserhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01646213573761736892noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31849511.post-36846108027729529852016-06-30T17:25:04.129-07:002016-06-30T17:25:04.129-07:00Thanks for the post, informative and also made me ...Thanks for the post, informative and also made me laugh at times because I can so relate to much of it. I broke my tibial plateau about three weeks ago and can understand the pain, the boredom, the need to not only look outside but get outside, the difficulties in getting around with crutches, etc. I wondered does anyone else find that their abdominal muscles are sore from using the crutches? Not sure if it's my age (close to 60) or what but I feel like I have done a million sit ups and walking with the crutches hurts more than my broken leg. I would never have thought to use a cooler in the shower. Liking the idea because most reviews of shower chairs I've seen on amazon had at least one person say the chair broke or the legs separated causing them to fall, etc. so have not purchased one. The cooler might be a better option. Anyway, thank you for the post! Misery loves company as they say. Not feeling so alone in this helps.Michigalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16525860549785891131noreply@blogger.com
