Yes, You May Read My Thesis (But You Don't Have To)

After making some post-published edits for my own peace of mind, here is my thesis for anyone who would like to read it. I'm not forcing anyone. It's long. And jargony in places. And not as good as it could be. But please agree not to point out any petty mistakes as they will only drive me crazy. (Yikes, okay, maybe point them out because it might bug me not knowing what you discovered!) The Mommy Blog Thesis Michelle Glauser 2009.

  3. ughh. I was reading through the printed version of my thesis last night in preparation for the proficiency exam today and found AWFUL mistakes. Unnecessary page break, wrong font, bad copy pasting, mixed up singulars and plurals. I wanted to kill myself :-p

  4. Hey you! I haven't actually left a comment on a blog for over a year but wanted to say thanks for sending me that link to your thesis. Blogging is such a very strange thing. I think about writing on my blog every day even though it's been almost two years since I quit regular posting. I honestly can't quite explain why I don't write anymore other than I needed a little more privacy in my life. But even still, the fellowship and friends I made in the blogging community were amazing in their diversity and interests. I do miss them (you!). But above all, I want to give my kids all that I can while they are still home with me during the day. It's a battle. I've always had so so many interests and it seems like every one that I pursue turns into a 24/7 passion. But parenting is a 24/7 struggle and not always as easy to throw myself into with as much enthusiasm if I have other options. Don't get me wrong, I love my kids, but if I have an attractive distraction, they start to seem like a burden rather than a blessing.

Anyways, I just wanted to let you know that the blogging community was a very important part of my life - which is why I cut the ties to let my kids fill that role instead. Your thesis is quite good and cover a lot of great writers. Good luck!

  6. Congratulations!! What a great accomplishment. Plus, I envy you living in Germany. Once upon a time, way back when I had a career, I got to travel there regularly, and I think I left my heart somewhere in the Chiemgau.

(thanks for citing me, too. cool beans!)

  7. Wow! It looks great! This is a topic I am super interested in, so I will definitely read it, though slowly over a few days probably. And maybe share with my uber-feminist mother who is still slightly upset that I have run away to France to live a very "old-fashioned" life. Or maybe she just misses my baking, lol.

  9. All of your comments leave me wanting to say something. First of all, thank you for all your support and kind words. Jen-no problem, Hanner-it's not as bad of a process as one would think. I really believe that the formatting was the worst part. Vilja-don't kill yourself. You will watch out for those things better in the future. (And you can make all those changes now in your personal copy. I did.)

Hollywood, I was shocked that you commented! So you do still think about your blog. Your comment had so much in it that I would have loved to have for my thesis. Maybe I will use it in the future. My only question for you is, "Why didn't you ever write a goodbye post to all your loyal readers--are you leaving the blog option open?"

Andromeda--I miss your baking too. Though I've never had it.

NieNie-what an honor to hear something from you. I think you should have one post where you leave the comments open. Just try it and see what happens. You wouldn't have to do it again (I realize so many comments could be overwhelming), but that would be really cool.

  13. Wow! Great work, and truly, what an accomplishment. I followed a link from BCC too, and I'm glad I did.

I recently read a paper on a similar topic. If you haven't seen it (though you probably have if you've spent this long studying mommy blogs!), this paper was just published by some BYU grad students, showing that mommy bloggers high in social comparison and time spent blogging have lower self esteem.

Anyway. Congrats on finishing a great and timely thesis!

  18. This is good read! All the information is well laid and accurate. I think every mother that treats themselves as stay-at-home mother would be happy to read your paper! I bet it is kind of fulfilling to finally getting it done. I know it might be way too late, but congratulation for a great thesis!
